Dive Stations

This system uses RFID tags embedded in specimen holders to identify where users place the specimen. When an object is placed on one of the 4 hotspots the hotspot illuminates, a logo for the specimen floats to the top and content (image slideshows, video, and/or text) is presented to the user. Content definitions and presentation layout parameters are contained within xml files, making this a very portable system. Once the first station was built, the others took a few minutes to populate with new content.

My involvement with this project:

  • Created the Flash system to present content to users
  • Prototyped the projection system and RFID system
  • Programmed the controller that notifies Flash of all RFID tag readings
  • Final installation and testing of 4 Dive Stations at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park
